• Educating

Cornfield School is ambitious for each and every child and young person whom we admit and make a firm commitment and attachment to. We pledge to provide quality, genuine full-time education for looked after and excluded girls.
  • Integrating

At Cornfield School we understand that exclusion doesn't work or repair adult / pupil relationships in the long term. We work closely with our young people to help them reach their full potential through our "Nurture via Structure" ethos.
  • Delivering

Cornfield School was inspected by Ofsted in October 2007 and May 2010 with all aspects rated "good" or "outstanding". Ofsted commented that "students come from a diversity of ethnic and cultural heritage backgrounds" and "the school met 100 per cent of the regulations with no further action points required".

Cornfield School

Cornfield School started as the feeder school for "Looked After" girls from Cornerways Children's Services' residential homes in the Redhill/ Crawley area.

We have been admitting independent day pupils since September 2006, originally as a response to individual parents of locally excluded or vulnerable girls who were unable to manage in mainstream schools, mixed schools or boy-dominated Pupil Referral Units or Special Schools.

Day pupils usually have Statements of Special Educational Need for BESD, MLD or ASD. The school staff have received in house training in ASD by The National Autistic Society.

Cornfield School can accept three types of placement:

  • Day students in need of a more specialised education service referred either via a local authority or via direct enquiry from interested parents. However, in this instance Cornfield school cannot accept "Day Student Only" referrals on a boarder basis as the school does not directly provide accommodation.

  • As part of a specialist residential care referral from local authorities wishing to access residential care with a therapeutic service plus specialist education.

  • As part of a foster care referral from local authorities wishing to access residential care with a therapeutic service plus specialist education.
