Who Are Our Foster Carers?
Cornerways believe that children and young people in need of foster care should receive a high quality service that values and cares for them as individuals. Foster care that will keep them safe and provide them with nurture, support and opportunities to help them understand and cope with past experiences and prepare them for their future as children and adults within the community with all their individual achievements and potential.
Our Foster Carers are chosen for the compassion they have for children, their ability to keep children safe and build appropriate relationships with children and to promote a child’s development.
They bring with them the experience or potential to work with parents and other professionals, work within the expectations of the law and Cornerways policies and work as part of a multi disciplinary team to achieve a shared goal. They are carefully assessed and are committed to ongoing training and development. Our Foster Carers are undertaking NVQ3 in child care as well as ongoing training.
Our Foster Carers are located within Surrey, Sussex and South London, they are therefore in close proximity to London and nearby Counties and accessible for travel to contact or school.
All our foster carers have their own unique family lifestyle, however they all are expected to provide a safe, comfortable, healthy environment for children. Each child will have their own bedroom (unless sharing with a sibling), and the bedroom will be decorated in a clean, fresh comfortable style. Our Foster Carers provide a healthy lifestyle.
Our Foster Carers are expected to build caring and appropriately affectionate relationships with children and young people, so that children experience being welcome, belonging, feeling respected, having choices, being listened to. We expect our Foster Carers to have enough flexibility within their lives to accommodate a young person who needs help to attend and achieve at school, help to keep in contact with their family and help to join in leisure activities.
Some of our Foster Carers have the skill and size of home that can provide for a placement of a mum and baby, this requires carers with good social skills, up to date baby care skills, good record keeping skills and a flexible attitude towards having another adult living in their home.
